I almost always grow at least one of Guitar-repairman extraordinaire and Appalachian renaissance man Herb Key's tommytoes each year.  His mother grew both yellow and red ones.  Herb actually got me started on this odyssey of seed saving--without his generosity with seeds I just flat out wouldn't have freezers full of heirloom seeds--at least not in the way that I do.  He loaded me down with so many seeds, that I felt obligated to share them with people I thought might appreciate them! It turned out all of THOSE people had family seeds too, and from there my collection just grew and grew.  It's so important to help people when they are just starting out and finding their way!  Another reason I grow these tommytoes?  They are very low maintenance compared to some of the larger fruited, thin skinned and less disease and weather resistant heirlooms.  I feel confident sharing tommytoes with beginners.

Tommytoes
"Tommytoes" is a term essentially used to describe any small fruited "cherry" type tomato, but I generally reserve "tommytoes" for little mountain heirloom tomatoes, and "cherry" for more widely available small types.
