digital album releases on Bandcamp March 10, 2025
I appreciate all of the folks that invited me down to Marshall to share a song in the Aftermath (seems like that word ought to be capitalized). It's available now on Bandcamp (pre-order). Now, some forewarning for the track I recorded. It was written in the aftermath of the devastating and widespread 1916 flood that mirrored Helene in many ways. I was aware of the song before Helene, old Bobby sang it for me over the phone once, but it didn't really "strike" me until--you know--"everything" happened. And honestly, the experience helped me come to understand part of why folks were singing all these brutal old songs about murder and/or destruction. Sometimes the only way you can process something so terrible is through music. This shorter version comes from Seth Stillwells great aunt. Thanks Seth for sharing that family recording with me several years ago.
